Bruce told the children Alice had gone to California for work. He secretly packed and disposed of some of her things, and even forged a “suicide note” that looked like it was written by Alice. He also sent the kids letters supposedly from Alice, claiming she was with another man. Bruce continued to abuse Shanalyn.

Years later, Bruce was caught stealing Alice’s disability payments. He initially claimed Alice had committed suicide and he’d disposed of her body at sea, but this story fell apart. There was no evidence to support his claim.

Bruce was convicted of Alice’s murder, but the conviction was overturned twice on technicalities. He was ultimately released because there wasn’t enough evidence to prove premeditation. Alice’s body has never been found, but police strongly suspect Bruce murdered her after she confronted him about the abuse. He continues to deny involvement in her disappearance.
