Two women, Jackson-Foy and Rothen, went missing. Jackson-Foy disappeared in Wilmington, North Carolina in July 2006, and Rothen disappeared in Hanover County, North Carolina in June 2007. A year later, in April 2008, their bodies were found together near Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington.

It took several months to be sure, but tests confirmed the bodies were those of the missing women. Rothen was murdered; she had a fractured skull, broken facial bones, and a fatal cut to her neck. The cause of Jackson-Foy’s death wasn’t immediately clear.

Police think one person killed both women, and the case is still being investigated.
