Details of Disappearance:
Alma and her sister Laura were in foster care because they ran away from home to escape their abusive father. Their father was eventually sent to prison for abusing them. After being apart for a while, Alma and Laura were reunited and lived with their grandmother.

On New Year’s Day, 1980, Alma’s boyfriend, Scott, picked her up. He said he took her to her aunt’s house in Rio Linda, California, but her family said she didn’t have an aunt there. When Scott went back to get Alma after work, she was gone. He told police this wasn’t unusual because Alma sometimes ran away.

Laura didn’t believe Alma ran away. She said they always ran away together, and Alma wouldn’t leave without her. Laura says Scott told her she’d never find Alma.

The case was reopened in 1991 after Alma’s father got out of prison. Police again questioned Scott and searched his grandmother’s property, but found nothing. It’s important to note that Scott was later convicted of child molestation. While he’s a registered sex offender, he has never been charged with Alma’s disappearance and says he’s innocent.

What happened to Alma is still a mystery. Her grandparents and father are dead, but her mother and sisters are still looking for answers. The case remains unsolved, and some still consider it a runaway case, even though those close to her believe otherwise.
