- Details of Disappearance:
- In February 2000, a woman named Smith finished her taxi job in Irving, Texas, and drove home to Weatherford. Her husband and children weren’t there. Around 4:00 a.m., her trailer home caught fire and burned down completely. Someone also tried to burn her car. Smith was never found, and there was no evidence she died in the fire. Investigators think the fire was arson.
Police suspect Jeffrey Allan Maxwell. In 2011, he was arrested for kidnapping, raping, and torturing a 62-year-old woman whose house also burned down. The victim was found hidden in Maxwell’s home. While there’s no proof Maxwell knew Smith, their disappearances are very similar. Maxwell is also a suspect in the disappearance of his own wife in 1992.
Smith’s husband says she was a religious and responsible person who wouldn’t leave her children. Police believe foul play was involved in Smith’s disappearance, but the case remains unsolved.
