- On January 3, 1984, a woman named Matthews disappeared. She left her home to go to beauty school in Norristown, Pennsylvania, but she never arrived. She didn’t have a car and might have been hitchhiking. She’s never been seen or heard from again, and there’s no record of her using her bank accounts or getting new credit cards.
Police think Jack Lee Colin Jr. might be involved. Colin has a violent past. He killed his parents in 1972 and was declared not guilty by reason of insanity because he had schizophrenia. He was released from a mental hospital in 1977. Later, in 1984, he was jailed for having illegal guns.
In 2004, Colin became a suspect in the murders of two other women, and because he lived very close to the beauty school Matthews attended, police investigated him in connection with her disappearance. Although he’s never been charged in any of these cases, he was later sent to prison in 2006 for having guns and child pornography.
Police suspect Matthews’s disappearance was a crime, but no one has ever been charged.
