- Distinguishing Characteristics African-American female. Black hair, brown eyes. Angelique has burn scars on the top of one foot. Due to a congential skeletal abnormality, one of her legs and one of her arms is shorter than the other. Angelique has a previous fracture of her left arm that is only visible in an x-ray.
- Details of Disappearance:
- Angelique disappeared from her Los Angeles home on or around February 15, 1997. Her mother, Shirley, wouldn’t tell police where she was, and was arrested nine months later. Police believe Shirley killed Angelique sometime between December 1996 and March 1997.
Shirley was charged with Angelique’s murder, child abuse, and hurting her children. Angelique’s three sisters had already been taken away by social services. Shirley also had seven other children; one baby daughter died in 1992, but no charges were filed then.
Shirley said she was innocent, but later admitted to involuntary manslaughter. She was sentenced to five years in prison, the longest sentence possible under the agreement. Police searched the family’s yard with a cadaver dog that indicated Angelique might be buried there, but her body was never found. Different records show different dates for her disappearance (February 15th, September 4th, or March 1997).
