Details of Disappearance:
Five-year-old Anna Waters disappeared from her backyard in rural California on January 16, 1973. She’d come home from kindergarten, played outside, and then vanished. Her mom found her missing around 2:20 p.m., and police were called an hour later. Despite searching the nearby creek (which was flooded), and using a siren to try and find her, Anna was never found.

A neighbor saw two men in a white van near the house shortly before Anna disappeared, but they were never identified. About a month earlier, Anna’s younger brother saw a man and woman try to lure Anna into their 1960s Chevrolet Impala with Washington plates. Anna refused, and they drove away. This couple was also never identified.

Suspicion fell on Anna’s biological father, George. He was a doctor who had mental health problems (schizophrenia) and a strange relationship with another man, “George Brody,” whom the family believed was an alias. Brody was very manipulative and seemed to control George. Brody even insisted on adding a meaningless middle name, “Eifee,” to Anna’s name for numerological reasons. After Anna’s disappearance, George showed no concern, only wanting to stop paying child support. Brody died in 1981, leaving behind a mysterious death certificate with no personal information. Two weeks later, George committed suicide.

Police and a private investigator couldn’t find evidence linking either George or Brody to Anna’s disappearance. Anna’s mother and stepfather believe she’s still alive, possibly unaware she’s missing. The case remains a mystery.
