- On February 1, 1997, Zirkle disappeared from her home in Columbus, Ohio. She lived there with her two young sons, their father, and his cousin. That day, her boyfriend was visiting friends in Warren, Ohio (about 170 miles away). Before moving to Columbus, they had all lived in Warren.
Zirkle’s cousin said she seemed overwhelmed and wanted to leave. She gave him money to send her sons to Warren to be with their father. The cousin took the kids, and they arrived safely. Zirkle was never seen again. A neighbor reported her missing a few days later.
Zirkle had a difficult childhood, losing her father young and spending time in foster care before being adopted. After high school, she moved to Warren with her boyfriend.
Her family believes she wouldn’t have just left her children. She left behind her clothes, ID, and an uncashed check. Police suspect foul play and think she was murdered. They believe her body might be in Windsor Township, Ohio. A search of a wooded area there in 2011 found nothing, and her case remains unsolved.
