Details of Disappearance:
On March 14, 2007, 70-year-old Castro disappeared in Maui, Hawaii. He was visiting his daughter from his home in Los Angeles. He’d been in Maui since February 3rd and had a routine of swimming at Keawakapu Beach every evening. That day, he didn’t come back from his swim. His clothes and goggles were found on the beach, but he wasn’t in the water.

Police think he probably drowned, but his family isn’t sure. No one saw him go into the water that evening, and they believe he might have gotten lost or confused and wandered away from the beach instead. They still hold out hope he’s alive somewhere in Hawaii.

Castro was born in Mexico, lived in El Paso, Texas as a teenager, and moved to Los Angeles in 1956. He had a big family—seven children and a wife of over 50 years—and he worked various jobs. He enjoyed swimming, fixing things, watching sports, and listening to mariachi music. He regularly went to church. His disappearance remains a mystery.
