- Details of Disappearance:
- On July 8, 2012, Van Der Hoven went boating. He left from a marina in Marathon, Florida, in his 21-foot boat at 8:00 a.m. He was expected back by 2:00 p.m., but never returned.
A search started, and the Coast Guard found his empty boat about a mile from Duck Key, Florida. No one knows what happened to him, and a big search of the ocean didn’t find him. He lived in Sarasota, Florida, and is believed to have died at sea.
