Later that day, her nephew found her house unlocked, windows open, her phone on the floor with the battery removed, and pots scattered in the kitchen. Valuables were left untouched, making a robbery unlikely. Her car, a silver Toyota Camry, was found hidden off a dirt road about a quarter-mile away. The car keys were buried nearby.

A witness saw a woman who looked like Barbara near the car, appearing scared, with a man and a white truck nearby. This witness was so concerned they contacted Crime Stoppers.

Barbara was a widow who lived alone but was very close to her family. Her disappearance is completely out of character; she regularly cooked for her kids and helped her sister. She was cautious and even carried a gun when she went outside. Her credit cards have never been used since she vanished.

Police believe she was abducted. One theory connects her disappearance to the death of her husband in a 2004 train accident. Some blamed her husband for the deaths of two railroad workers involved in the accident. However, the link between the accident and Barbara’s disappearance isn’t clear.

Despite suspicion of foul play, there’s little evidence, and the case remains unsolved.
