Details of Disappearance:
On May 14, 2008, after celebrating the last day of school at Minnesota West Community College, 20-year-old Swanson got his car stuck in a ditch on his way home to Marshall, Minnesota. He called his parents for help around 12:30 a.m. They couldn’t find him, so he said he’d walk to the nearby town of Lynd. He was talking to his dad on the phone when the call suddenly ended around 2:00 a.m. after he yelled. His dad couldn’t reach him again.

Swanson’s car was found the next day far from where he said he was—about 20 miles off. A big search turned up nothing. Police think he might have fallen into the Yellow Medicine River, which was high and fast that night, but his body was never found.

Swanson was a bright young man, a high school graduate with plans to go to college and study science. He was close to his family and worked at a Hy-Vee grocery store. Because of his disappearance, “Brandon’s Law” was created in Minnesota, requiring quicker searches for missing young adults. Sadly, his case remains a mystery.
