- On October 2, 2016, Phelps went fishing on the Stanislaus River in Tuolumne County, California. He never came back. His car, a 2007 Nissan Versa, was found parked near a trail he often used, close to Donnell Vista Point along Highway 108. Police searched the river thoroughly, but they couldn’t find him. Phelps has been missing ever since, and the case is still a mystery.
