Details of Disappearance:
Carlene disappeared from Rawlins, Wyoming on July 4th, 1974, after attending a rodeo with her friend Christy. Both vanished, and their car was found abandoned – either at the rodeo or 200 miles away in Worland. Police initially thought they left voluntarily, but changed their minds when they never returned.

Around the same time, two other women disappeared in Rawlins: Deborah Meyer and 10-year-old Jayleen Banker. Sadly, Jayleen’s body was found months later; she had been murdered. Years later, Christy’s body was also discovered; she too was murdered.

Royal Russell Long, who lived in Rawlins and worked at local fairs, is considered a possible suspect in these disappearances and murders. He was convicted of kidnapping but not of any of the other crimes, and he died in prison in 1993.

Carlene was adopted, and her birth family is unknown. She lived with her father and brother in Rawlins at the time of her disappearance. Her case, along with Deborah’s, remains unsolved, and police suspect foul play.
