- Details of Disappearance:
- On October 1st, 2001, a man named Kindred dropped his kids off at daycare and went to an auto parts store near Bartow, Florida. He was last seen talking to two men there and vanished. His truck was found abandoned later at a convenience store in Lakeland.
Kindred was a devoted dad with sole custody of his three young children, so his disappearance was very unusual.
Robert Levesque, a career criminal, was one of the men seen with Kindred. Security footage showed Levesque parking Kindred’s truck. Levesque ran a chop shop (a place that dismantles stolen cars). Kindred wanted to buy a truck from him, but Levesque refused the sale. Kindred supposedly threatened to report Levesque to the police, which authorities believe was the motive for the murder.
Levesque was initially charged with, then cleared of, and then re-charged with Kindred’s murder. At his trial, his girlfriend said he borrowed a shotgun the day Kindred disappeared, and it looked like it had been fired. A former cellmate said Levesque confessed to the killing. Although Levesque’s lawyer argued there was no proof Kindred was dead or that Levesque killed him, he was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. He claims he’s innocent. Because of the circumstances, police believe Kindred was murdered.
