Details of Disappearance:
In October 1981, a woman named Heimann went missing from Rochester, New York. She’d gone to a psychiatric hospital after a drug overdose, not because she needed help, but because she was scared of a man and knew the hospital would protect her for 72 hours. This man reportedly tried to find her before she was released.

Heimann left the hospital on a short pass to pay her rent, but never returned. She told a nurse she feared going home because the man was waiting for her. She hasn’t been seen or heard from since. She usually took the bus and had very little money, only $250 a month in disability payments which stopped after she disappeared.

The police initially wouldn’t take a missing person report, and her mother only reported her missing almost a month later. The case remains a mystery. It’s especially sad because she was about to finish her PhD at the University of Rochester’s medical school.
