Details of Disappearance:
Bryla disappeared on March 14, 2019, after a taxi dropped her off at her Chicago home. Her half-brother, Marvin Bailey, was charged with her murder in November 2019.

Bailey has a violent past, including a conviction for attacking his girlfriend with a hammer and setting her on fire. He had been living with Bryla but moved out after an argument.

After Bryla vanished, Bailey and another person used her debit card to buy bungee cords, straps, and a dolly. Surveillance video shows them taking a large blue container from Bryla’s apartment and putting it in Bailey’s van. They struggled to move the heavy container, even using the dolly.

Police briefly stopped Bailey and his friend, but let them go. They then took the container to a motel. Video shows Bailey throwing the container into a dumpster. A worker saw the container and a black bag inside.

Investigators believe Bryla’s body may be in an Indiana landfill. They found the blue container (with Bryla’s DNA), blood in Bryla’s apartment and Bailey’s van, and a cadaver dog detected human remains near the dumpster. Bryla’s family says she wouldn’t disappear without warning, and perishable food was left in her fridge. All evidence strongly suggests foul play. Bailey is awaiting trial.
