Details of Disappearance:

On June 28, 1987, in El Paso, Texas, 19-year-old Vasquez disappeared. She was last seen at 9:22 PM at a Circle K store on McCombs Street, buying cigarettes for a friend. She spoke with a man, David Leonard Wood, in the parking lot before vanishing.

That same year, several young women disappeared in El Paso; many were found murdered. Wood, a serial rapist recently released from prison, was convicted of killing six of them, though he claims he’s innocent and his death sentence is being appealed. The killings stopped after his arrest in October 1987. While he was seen with Vasquez that night, he’s never been charged in her case.

A week before her disappearance, Vasquez married Robert Dismukes, a convicted criminal serving time, by proxy (from prison). Her family doesn’t know why she married him, but think it might have been to help him avoid deportation. Dismukes now lives in Germany.

Vasquez worked at a fast food place and a plastics factory. Although Dismukes’s mother-in-law claims some people saw Vasquez after her disappearance, police suspect foul play and believe Wood may be responsible. Vasquez’s disappearance remains a mystery.
