Details of Disappearance:
Christina and her mother, Janet, disappeared from Hueytown, Alabama on September 17, 1973. Janet worked at an insurance company in Birmingham. They’d recently moved from North Carolina, and Janet was going through a difficult divorce; her ex-husband wanted custody of Christina. Janet was seeing a married man and told people she was going on a trip to the Smoky Mountains with him.

When they vanished, the family assumed they’d gone on that trip or that Janet had hidden Christina to avoid the custody battle. However, on October 7th, Janet’s body was found murdered in the Smoky Mountains. She had been suffocated and her body was hidden in a bag. It took a month to identify her, and only then did police realize Christina was missing too.

A big search of the mountains didn’t find Christina. Police suspected Janet’s married boyfriend, who was in the area around the time of the murder, but his wife gave him an alibi. He’s since passed away.

Because of how things happened, some believe Janet might have given Christina to someone else before she was killed, meaning Christina could still be alive. But that’s just a theory, and no one knows what really happened to Christina. Janet’s murder remains unsolved, and Christina has been missing since 1973.
