- Details of Disappearance:
- Voltaire disappeared from her apartment in Winter Haven, Florida on January 8, 2011. She was a student, and her friend Charles borrowed her car that evening. When he returned 45 minutes later, she was gone, but her belongings were still there. There were no signs of a struggle.
Voltaire had recently lost her one-year-old daughter and was planning to move closer to family. She didn’t have a cell phone or credit cards, making it hard to trace her. Her ex-boyfriend, Dieuseul (Charles’s brother), had a history of violence and Voltaire had expressed fear of him to her father. Although Dieuseul claims their relationship ended amicably months before her disappearance, he refused to cooperate with the police investigation. Charles cooperated fully.
Because of the suspicious circumstances and Dieuseul’s behavior, police believe Voltaire may have been in danger. Her disappearance remains a mystery.
