- Details of Disappearance:
- Christine Meyer and her mother, Dianna, vanished from their family boat, the *Marjo*, in Alaska on June 4, 1996. Christine was just days from her 18th birthday.
According to Christine’s father, Robert, he woke them because of smoke. When he went to get their dogs, they were gone. He found the *Marjo* on fire later. The boat sank, but investigators found Dianna’s blood and a bullet casing on the family’s smaller boat. The *Marjo’s* wreckage was too deep to explore properly.
Robert’s story had inconsistencies: he didn’t ask for help from another boat he passed, and there were gaps in his timeline. He was having an affair and Dianna was planning a divorce. He also had significant life insurance policies on his wife and daughter and the boat.
Robert was charged with their murder and burning the boat. His mistress, Ann Lowe, was also charged with destroying evidence. Before Robert’s trial, he died in an apparent suicide. Lowe was convicted of tampering with evidence.
Christine was a bright, talented high school graduate with a promising future. Despite suspicion of foul play, Christine and Dianna’s bodies were never recovered.
