Details of Disappearance:
In May 2000, a travel writer named Kirschhoch went on a work trip to Jamaica. Her planned trip to Cuba fell through, and she ended up at a resort in Negril. She befriended a bartender there, Anthony Grant.

One afternoon, she was seen walking on the beach, and then vanished. Her belongings were in her room except for her swimsuit, shirt, and radio – the things she was wearing on the beach. Crucially, important evidence potentially related to the case went missing from the resort: her phone, the resort’s vehicle logbook, and a security camera tape. The resort also developed her camera film after she disappeared, reporting no pictures, raising concerns.

Mr. Grant, the bartender, called in sick the day after Kirschhoch disappeared, and the FBI found a hair belonging to Kirschhoch and traces of her scent in his car. However, DNA testing was inconclusive, as was a lie detector test he took. While police don’t consider him a suspect, her family does.

The resort is also suspected of hindering the investigation by potentially destroying evidence and not cooperating fully with authorities. Her family sued the resort in 2002. Numerous reported sightings in Jamaica after her disappearance haven’t been verified. Kirschhoch was declared legally dead in 2002, but the case remains unsolved.
