- Details of Disappearance:
- Cookie disappeared from her Tempe, Arizona home on the evening of September 21, 1998. Her belongings were still there, and she was reported missing the next day.
Police think her 16-year-old son, Aaron, killed her, and his 13-year-old sister, Laura, helped him hide the body. Aaron claimed he found his mother dead and, fearing blame, they put her body (wrapped in a yellow sheet) in a trash can. There was some of Cookie’s blood in the can, but not enough to prove she died there.
A friend said Aaron and Laura wanted to kill their mother. Aaron failed a lie detector test, but Laura’s results were unclear. Both were arrested, but released due to lack of evidence. They are still the main suspects.
While they didn’t have a great relationship with their mother, there was no history of abuse. Aaron and Laura have since moved away from Tempe.
Police believe Cookie’s body is in the Butterfield Station Landfill, but a massive 59-day search turned up nothing. A helpful tip came in 2003, but the person who called couldn’t be found.
Cookie’s disappearance remains a mystery.
