- In August 2006, Knowles vanished from a campsite near Dunsmuir, California. Twelve years later, in 2018, some of his bones were found by firefighters putting out a large wildfire. Tests proved the bones belonged to Knowles. Because he had a heart problem, police think he probably died of a heart attack or similar natural causes.
