- Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian male. Brown hair, blue/hazel eyes. Potts has a muscular build and a dog bite scar on his nose. He has the following tattoos: a Confederate flag and the words “rise again” at the base of his neck, Chinese characters that mean “drink” on his left forearm, and a skull and crossbones with green eyes on the small of his back. He has poor vision and normally wears wire-framed eyeglasses, but he did not have them with him when he disappeared. Potts may shave his head. He has caps on his front teeth and his four wisdom teeth have been extracted. He has previously broken his left femur and fractured his collarbone.
- Details of Disappearance:
- Early on October 29, 2006, police chased David Potts after he was seen driving erratically. He was driving a friend’s car because his friend was too drunk. Potts sped away from police, reaching nearly 130 mph, before crashing on the Blanchette Bridge in Missouri. He then ran from the car, jumped over the bridge railing, and disappeared. Nobody knows if he landed on a lower part of the bridge or fell into the river.
Potts hasn’t been seen or heard from since. He left his wallet and ID behind, and hasn’t touched his money. Police initially thought he was running from them, not missing, and only started a missing person investigation later. A search of the bridge and river turned up nothing.
His friends say he was a strong swimmer. His mother, who was ill, says he’d never leave without telling her. Some family think he might have run away to start a new life, as he’d talked about making a fresh start. Others believe he drowned in the river. The mystery of what happened to David Potts remains unsolved.
