- Details of Disappearance:
- On February 4, 1978, during a terrible blizzard in Litchfield, Illinois—the second worst winter storm ever recorded in the state—Reynolds disappeared. The blizzard was so bad that everything shut down: airports, schools, businesses, even mail delivery and emergency services struggled to help people. The National Guard had to be called in. Twenty-four people died in their cars, and three men, including Reynolds, vanished.
That day, Reynolds went to a bar with a friend, then dropped his friend off. He said he was going to see his girlfriend, but she wasn’t home. His car was later found abandoned in a snowdrift across the street from his girlfriend’s house—locked, with broken windows, but his jacket inside. It looked like he tried to walk to a nearby house for help, but he never made it.
Before he disappeared, Reynolds had a serious fight with the brothers of a girl he dated. They beat him up badly with a baseball bat months earlier and threatened to kill him. One brother passed a lie detector test about Reynolds’ disappearance, but the other brother and his girlfriend refused to take one.
Reynolds had a problem with drugs and alcohol, but his family says he was close to them and wouldn’t have just left, especially in that terrible storm. The case remains a mystery.
