Details of Disappearance:
Diane Schulte disappeared from her Nampa, Idaho home on March 25, 1977. She’d been feeling unwell the day before and stayed home after a library trip with her husband, Fred. When Fred left for work at 7:20 a.m., Diane was still home. But when he returned, she was gone.

Nothing seemed amiss: the car was there, mail was delivered, and a package was on the porch. Diane’s belongings, including her purse and money, were left behind. Her three cats were locked in their usual room, but her wedding ring and watch were on her desk – unusual if she’d planned to go out for a while.

Diane was a quiet woman, with few friends and little contact with neighbors. She enjoyed reading, crafts, and her cats. She was estranged from her parents but close to her grandmother in Michigan. Neighbors said she and Fred were a loving couple with no signs of trouble. However, Diane’s grandmother said she’d seemed very upset in their last phone call, possibly about an upcoming visit from her parents that Diane didn’t want. Despite this, Fred said Diane was in a good mood before she vanished.

A week later, police asked Fred to take a lie detector test. Before the test could happen, on April 3rd, Fred was found dead in Diane’s car after a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He left two notes: a will, and a second expressing his deep love for Diane and despair over her disappearance. He didn’t say anything about what happened to her.

While police haven’t officially accused Fred, they suspect foul play in Diane’s disappearance, a mystery that remains unsolved to this day.
