- Vargo disappeared in March 1976. He was a college student (architectural engineering) at the University of Texas, but dropped out unexpectedly on March 9th. He didn’t tell his family. He then drove to Colorado, saying he planned to explore the state on his own and maybe get a job at a dude ranch.
