- On June 25, 2018, a woman named Burfield vanished from Sugar Land, Texas. About a month later, police arrested her acquaintance, Alex Jerome Haggerty, for domestic violence. During that arrest, they found some of Burfield’s things—clothes and belongings—at Haggerty’s house in Houston. He was also using her phone. Soon after, Haggerty was charged with Burfield’s murder. A year later, in August 2019, with the help of an activist named Quanell X, Haggerty showed police where he’d hidden Burfield’s body: inside a manhole in Houston.
