Details of Disappearance:

On June 29, 1977, 14-year-old Eva DeBruhl disappeared from her home in Catawba, South Carolina. She was last seen mowing the lawn and then going inside to make iced tea. Her father left for work shortly after 11 a.m., and her mother, who worked nights, was asleep. When her mother woke up around noon, Eva was gone.

The only clues were: an untouched glass of iced tea, the TV left on, her flip-flops outside, and her eyeglasses missing. Nothing else seemed to be taken.

A neighbor saw a man in a light green shirt and dark green pants driving a blue and white or green and white Jeep near the house that morning. He stopped, seemed to talk to someone at the door, left, and then returned a short time later. The neighbor didn’t see Eva interact with him, and the man was never identified.

Years later, serial killer Henry Lee Lucas confessed to Eva’s murder. Lucas had a long history of false confessions, and claimed to have killed hundreds of people. He was convicted of at least one murder and given a life sentence. He died in prison.

Eva was a shy, religious girl, a member of her church choir, who babysat to earn money. She had no boyfriend and was known for being responsible. Her family believes foul play was involved in her disappearance, and they continue to search for her.
