- Details of Disappearance:
- Joyce McDowell disappeared in 1983. Her last contact was a frantic phone call to her sister from a bar in Napa, California, saying someone was threatening her. The call was traced to a different bar, in Clear Lake.
A few days later, her mother received her address book in the mail, with a note from a man named Dave saying he found it on a beach.
Before disappearing, McDowell had been arguing with friends and got out of their car in Napa. Police investigated the man who mailed the address book, but he wasn’t involved. Near where he said he found the address book, they found a woman’s sock filled with rocks and sand.
Despite the investigation, McDowell has never been found. The case remains unsolved, and police in Winters, California are still looking for answers.
