- Details of Disappearance:
- On January 30, 1989, 13-year-old Ilene disappeared in Dublin, California. She was walking home from school at 3:00 PM, taking a shortcut through an alley behind some shops and across John Mape Park. Classmates saw her near the Shamrock Shopping Center, but she vanished soon after.
Her dark blue backpack was later found in the park, seemingly placed there after she disappeared.
Several people have been investigated as possible suspects in Ilene’s case, including:
* **Timothy Bindner:** He was also a suspect in other missing girls’ cases in the area, but was never charged and maintains his innocence. Investigators looked into his connections to Ilene’s case, but didn’t find enough evidence.
* **Curtis Dean Anderson:** Convicted of kidnapping and molesting a child, Anderson confessed to another girl’s murder (Amber Swartz-Garcia) before he died in prison, but the police couldn’t confirm his confession.
* **James Daveggio and Michelle Lyn Michaud:** Convicted of the abduction, rape, and murder of Vanessa Lei Sampson, they were also considered possible suspects in Ilene’s disappearance.
Despite investigations, Ilene’s case remains unsolved. She was a bright student who wanted to be a pediatrician and a talented figure skater.
