- Details of Disappearance:
- In April 2000, a woman named Montiero disappeared from her Manhattan apartment. The night before she vanished, her boyfriend, Eddie Palacio, was heard yelling at her during a phone call. Palacio claimed Montiero went to a hair appointment on the day she disappeared, but this was proven false. No one else saw her after April 1st. Importantly, Palacio didn’t report her missing; her brother did a few days later. Palacio said he was afraid to contact the police because Montiero had a protection order against him.
Montiero left her belongings, including her clothes and beeper, at her apartment. Her wallet and ID were found at a gas station far from her home, near LaGuardia Airport—police believe this was done to throw off investigators.
Palacio had a history of violence, including a manslaughter conviction. He was also suspected of assaulting a woman in his apartment building. His relationship with Montiero was extremely volatile; they had filed numerous domestic violence complaints against each other. They had a young daughter together.
Montiero worked as an accounting clerk and was studying accounting. Her disappearance remains a mystery, and police suspect foul play.
