Details of Disappearance:: On June 15, 1976, Lieutenant Lehtinen was last seen gardening at her Napa, California home. She didn’t go to work the next day at the naval base in Vallejo. Worried, her boss contacted a neighbor who checked on her. The neighbor found Lehtinen’s house tidy, but she was gone. Her Navy uniform was laid out as if she was about to leave for work, but her car, bike, purse, and everything else was still there. There was no sign of a struggle, a note, or anything suggesting she wanted to disappear. She had a good job in the Navy, no money troubles, and no known problems. The Navy initially said she deserted, but later changed it to deceased. She was officially declared dead in 1986. Police think something bad happened to her, but the case is still a mystery.
