- Details of Disappearance:
- Sharclane disappeared in Juneau, Alaska, on September 25, 1977. His grandfather reported him missing in November. Police investigated, and Peter Castillo became a suspect.
Castillo was charged with murder. The prosecution said Castillo and Sharclane fought on a bridge, and Castillo threw Sharclane into the water – a 49-foot drop. No one saw this happen, but a witness heard noises from the bridge around that time and saw Sharclane running onto it earlier. Sharclane’s body was never found.
Castillo confessed to throwing Sharclane off the bridge, but then said his confession wasn’t fair. Even though the confession was allowed in court, because Sharclane’s body wasn’t found, Castillo was only convicted of attempted murder, not murder. Sharclane is still officially listed as a missing person, but everyone believes he’s dead.
