Details of Disappearance:

In April 1986, a young woman named Pfeifer disappeared from Katy, Texas. She’d gone to a party about ten miles from home and never came back. Because she sometimes disappeared for short periods, her parents didn’t report her missing for a month. She’s never been seen or heard from since.

Witnesses said Pfeifer got very drunk at the party. She left with a man named James Hopgood. Hopgood initially denied knowing anything about her disappearance, but later admitted to being with her. He said they used drugs at his apartment, then he drove her back towards Katy. He claimed she got out of his car at a gas station around 3 a.m. and left with someone in a brown pickup truck. Hopgood has a criminal record, including convictions for forgery and aggravated sexual assault. He refused a lie detector test about Pfeifer’s disappearance and remains in prison.

Pfeifer’s sister doubts Hopgood’s story. Pfeifer had a troubled past, including emotional problems, arrests for drunk driving, and a history of violence. She didn’t take her purse or ID with her when she vanished.

Police initially thought Pfeifer left on her own, but with no contact for all these years, they now suspect foul play was involved. The case remains unsolved.
