- Elizabeth disappeared from her Iowa apartment on July 17, 2000. Her roommate saw her at 10:30 PM, and when the roommate came home at 4:00 AM, Elizabeth was gone. She left everything behind – her belongings, money, and even her paycheck. She didn’t have a car. The apartment door was locked from the outside, suggesting she left willingly.
However, Elizabeth’s family suspected foul play, believing her abusive husband, Michael, was responsible. They had a troubled relationship; she was only 14 when she met him (he was already married), and she moved from California to Iowa with him when she was 17. A month before Elizabeth vanished, Michael had a violent argument with her and her roommate. He was arrested and convicted of assault and robbery related to that incident.
Years later, in 2017, Michael was arrested and charged with Elizabeth’s murder. He was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without parole in 2018. Elizabeth’s body has never been found.
