- Wilbur, a grumpy, lonely, retired farmer, disappeared in Angelica, New York, in August 1985. No one noticed for a week because she lived alone. Her car was parked at home with groceries still inside, spoiling. Her house was unlocked, the shades were drawn, and a half-eaten meal was on the table – all suggesting she left suddenly.
Years later, in 2020, her neighbor, David Sherk, confessed to killing her while he was dying of cancer. He said he buried her body near the Almond Dam. Police are searching for her remains, but because Sherk is dying and cooperated, he won’t be prosecuted.
