- Details of Disappearance:
- Frank and Tessie Pozar mysteriously vanished from Spokane, Washington on October 26, 1984. They owned a motel and planned a yearly trip to Hawaii, where they owned land and intended to retire. In 1984, they booked flights for October 30th but never boarded the plane. They also failed to drop off their two dogs at the kennel as planned.
Their camper van disappeared from storage on October 29th, later showing up at the airport. Because they didn’t have a phone in Hawaii and rarely contacted family while there, no one noticed they were missing for weeks. Their children discovered their absence after Christmas.
Police investigated, finding no criminal record or significant debt for the couple, who left behind a sizable estate. Suspicion immediately fell on their son, Frank Jr. He was later convicted of stealing his parents’ money and forging their signature after their disappearance. He claimed he only took the money to keep the motel running, offering conflicting stories about their whereabouts (e.g., saying they went on a cruise).
Frank Jr. had a strained relationship with his parents, worsened by his financial mismanagement and the sale of family property. He refused to speak to them months before they vanished. He failed a lie detector test, though the results were inconclusive. Items meant for their Hawaii trip were found in his possession, along with their packed suitcases in the motel basement.
Despite being the prime suspect, Frank Jr. was never charged with their disappearance and maintains his innocence. His whereabouts are currently unknown. The case remains unsolved.
