- Details of Disappearance:
- In March 1974, a successful businessman named Caporino vanished from New Orleans. He was on a business trip, and after calling his family to say he’d be home the next day, he disappeared. His hotel room was left with his plane ticket, some packed luggage, and gifts for his family – suggesting he didn’t plan to leave.
A few days later, his credit card was used by three people described as “hippies” to buy things at a Sears store. They even used his insurance card as ID. Ten days after that, his rental car was found abandoned, mysteriously cleaned of fingerprints, but with the keys still in the ignition. His family doubts the car was simply left there for that long.
Caporino was a Navy veteran, happily married with two daughters, and had no known problems. Police couldn’t solve the mystery, and he was declared legally dead in 1979. What happened to him remains a mystery.
