Details of Disappearance:
On Mother’s Day, May 13, 2001, Shirley Myers was last seen at her Riverside, California home around 8:45 pm. Her son left earlier that evening after a Mother’s Day visit, noticing nothing unusual. When she didn’t show up later, her children called the police on May 15th. Her car, a copper-colored 1983 Toyota Corolla (license plate 1HQC197), was also gone.

Police found her home wasn’t ransacked, but some money was missing and there was a large bleach stain. They believed she may have let someone in or been attacked after 9 pm.

A teenager was arrested in Las Vegas on May 16th driving Myers’ car, claiming he found it abandoned. The car contained evidence suggesting foul play, including a shopping bag with Myers’ blood. The teen was charged with stealing the car but cleared as a suspect in her disappearance.

Bailey Lamar Jackson Jr., a convicted parolee living nearby, was later charged with attacking an elderly woman two blocks from Myers’ home. In 2002, he was also charged with robbing and murdering Myers. He confessed to stabbing a woman to death, and evidence like a crumpled envelope with Myers’ name linked him to her case. Bloodhounds even confirmed his scent on the envelope.

Jackson was found guilty in December 2004. Because the jury couldn’t decide on his punishment, a second jury sentenced him to death in October 2005.

Shirley Myers, a devout member of the Arlington Christian Church, has never been found. The evidence strongly suggests she was murdered.
