Details of Disappearance:
In March 1981, four people – a woman named Menacher, her boyfriend Charles Gibson, her daughter Angela DeLawder, and DeLawder’s boyfriend Ivan Gutierrez – vanished from Hallandale, Florida. They’d had dinner together the night before disappearing.

Menacher had called her other daughter, Robin, a few days earlier saying she was leaving town and would send travel details. She and Angela sent Robin a letter and $100 a couple of days later.

Gibson’s car was later found abandoned at Miami International Airport. He’d also emptied his apartment before disappearing. Gibson had a criminal record, was on parole for robbery, and was suspected of working for drug gangs.

Shortly after the disappearances, Menacher’s apartment was cleaned out by a woman and two men using a U-Haul truck. The woman told a neighbor the residents had been killed in a car accident.

All four missing people were heavily involved in drugs, though Robin had left that life behind and urged her mother and sister to do the same.

Gibson and Menacher were wanted for questioning in the murder of a drug dealer, Harvey McElroy, whose body was found burned and dumped. Police believed they helped McElroy hide after his prison escape and possibly disposed of his body after his murder. Police warned DeLawder that Menacher might be in danger because of their connection to McElroy’s death.

Police suspect the disappearances might be linked to McElroy’s murder – perhaps Menacher and Gibson were killed for what they knew, and DeLawder and Gutierrez were caught in the crossfire. Another theory is that the group went into hiding, possibly in Germany or Colombia. Robin denies knowing their location.

Since March 1981, there has been no trace of Menacher, Gibson, DeLawder, or Gutierrez.
