Details of Disappearance:
Upp disappeared from St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands on September 14, 2017, a week after Hurricane Irma and a week before Hurricane Maria. This wasn’t her first disappearance.

Twice before, she vanished suddenly:

* **2008, New York City:** She disappeared on her first day of teaching, and was found 20 days later floating in the water near Manhattan. She had hypothermia, sunburn, and dehydration. Doctors diagnosed her with dissociative fugue – a condition where someone loses their memory and wanders off, often due to trauma, though she reported no major trauma.

* **2012, Maryland:** Again, she disappeared on her first day of a new teaching job, and was found two days later in a creek. She experienced another dissociative fugue episode.

In St. Thomas, she left her belongings at a beach bar and vanished. Because she’s a strong swimmer, and because many boats were leaving the island due to the hurricanes, her family hopes she might have left the island safely and is still alive, perhaps in Florida, the Bahamas, St. Croix, or Puerto Rico. However, her disappearance remains a mystery.
