- On July 8, 2015, Drake went for a hike in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, California, and vanished. He was camping with a friend and said he’d be back that afternoon, but he never returned. Drake, a retired high school math teacher, was in good shape and knew how to hike. A big search found nothing, so it’s believed he had an accident in the mountains and died.
