Details of Disappearance:
In 1998, Dr. Ackerman, a child psychologist living in Baltimore, Maryland, disappeared. He was planning a big move to Alaska, having gotten a new job and bought a camper. First, he flew to Memphis, Tennessee to pick up a used truck. He arrived, got the truck (a red and white 1995 GMC), but never returned to the dealership to finish paperwork. He also never picked up his camper. He vanished without a trace.

Ackerman had a friend in Memphis, Dale Mardis, a gun dealer. Years later, Mardis was convicted of murdering another man, Mickey Wright, whose body was burned and never found. Right before Mardis’ sentencing for Wright’s murder, he confessed to also killing Ackerman. They argued about money, and Mardis beat Ackerman to death with a hammer, disposing of his body in a similar way to Wright’s. Mardis is serving a life sentence without parole.

The police believe Ackerman was murdered and have closed the case, as they don’t expect to find his remains.
