Details of Disappearance:
On August 6, 1995, Jack disappeared from a picnic in Big Bear Lake, California. He was with his family and had just argued with his mom and her boyfriend. He walked away and vanished. A big search found nothing.

A few days later, a family friend got a strange phone call that might have been Jack, but it wasn’t confirmed. Jack’s parents later reconciled and moved to West Virginia. His mom and her boyfriend weren’t suspects.

The main suspect is James Crummel, a convicted child killer. Crummel lived nearby and confessed to killing Jack to a fellow inmate. Police think Crummel may have thrown Jack’s body in the ocean. Crummel had a long history of violence against children, including a murder conviction that was later overturned. He was eventually convicted and sentenced to death for another child’s murder. He died by suicide in prison in 2012.

Even though police strongly suspect foul play in Jack’s disappearance, no one was ever charged with his murder.
