Details of Disappearance:
Early on July 24, 1993, Cheryl Coleman and her baby, Jamaree, visited her brother in Brunswick, Georgia. Around 3:00 a.m., they left. Cheryl refused a ride home and they were last seen getting into a truck driven by Carl Harris at a gas station.

Six hours later, Cheryl’s body was found in Academy Creek – a dangerous creek full of snakes and alligators – just a short distance from her brother’s house. She had been murdered, her body was naked and badly hurt. Jamaree was missing; his baby carrier and blanket were found near his mother’s body.

Carl Harris was arrested and admitted to killing both Cheryl and Jamaree. He said he killed Cheryl in a wooded area and left Jamaree by the creek before throwing Cheryl’s body into the water. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus extra time for assault. Harris had a history of violence and was responsible for other crimes around the same time.

Jamaree has never been found. It’s thought he was washed away by the tide.
