Details of Disappearance:
In September 1993, a man named Guinn disappeared from Pinecrest Developmental Center (formerly Pinecrest State School) in Pineville, Louisiana, where he lived. He was last seen on his cottage patio at 4:45 pm, smoking his pipe. When he didn’t show up for dinner fifteen minutes later, he was reported missing.

Guinn, who had lived at the facility for nearly 30 years, had never run away before. His cottage was far from the only entrance, which wasn’t guarded. He liked being around people and had family in Bossier City and a history of treatment in New Orleans.

His mother sued Pinecrest, saying they didn’t keep him safe enough. His care plan initially called for constant supervision (always knowing his location), but this was reduced to checks every 15 minutes five months before his disappearance. Witnesses thought he was likely abducted and killed, not that he ran away.

The judge agreed with his mother, awarding her $300,000. Guinn’s disappearance remains a mystery.
