Distinguishing Characteristics:
Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian female. Brown hair, green eyes. Peterson wears eyeglasses; the frames are black frames with pink speckles. She has blonde highlights in her hair. She has the following tattoos: a purple rose on her left breast, a cross with the name “Elijah” on her left shoulder blade, a large purple bear on her left upper arm, a daisy with the word “Daisy” on her right shoulder blade, and a large butterfly on the back of her neck. A photo of the purple bear tattoo is posted with this case summary. Peterson also had a tattoo of the word “Burns” on her lower back, but she may have covered that with another tattoo.
Details of Disappearance:
On September 26, 2011, a woman named Peterson vanished from her apartment in Ross Township, Pennsylvania. That morning, she sent her kids to school. She then went shopping, possibly to Giant Eagle and Home Depot. Later, her ex-boyfriend (they’d dated for five years but recently broke up) came to pick up some clothes. Neighbors saw them talking outside, but no one saw Peterson leave with him.

Peterson didn’t pick up her kids from swim practice that afternoon, and her calls went straight to voicemail. Her kids’ grandmother eventually picked them up, only to find Peterson gone from her apartment. Her phone and purse were missing, but her car was still there—strange, since she had a bad knee and couldn’t walk far. Her phone was in a purple Cricket case with flowers, and her purse was black cloth with white skulls.

This wasn’t the first time Peterson disappeared (she vanished once in 2003), but this time was different. She never made arrangements for her children’s care, which wasn’t like her. Peterson was a mechanic, but was on disability leave due to knee surgery.

Despite the investigation, Peterson’s disappearance remains a mystery.
