- On June 10, 1991, Jaycee was kidnapped from her home in South Lake Tahoe. A man and woman forced her into their car and drove away. Eighteen years later, in August 2009, she was found alive and well in Antioch, California. A convicted rapist, Phillip Garrido, and his wife, Nancy, had kept her locked in a shed in their backyard. During that time, Jaycee had two daughters with Phillip, who also grew up in the shed. The Garridos were arrested, and Jaycee is now being reunited with her family. Her amazing survival after such a long time held captive made headlines around the world, setting a record for the longest survival of a stranger-abducted child.
